Sacha and Dudley

Our two cats, Dudley and Sacha are male Korats. They have been part of our family for 14 years. They have brought us considerable joy and comfort during those years.

The Korat breed originated in the province of Korat in Thailand and are considered to bring good luck. They are one of the first cats mentioned in history. The breed has some characteristics of the siamese, the burmese and the oriental shorthair. They are affectionate, intelligent and profoundly aware of everything around them. They are small, solid, muscular with a silver-blue coat which has a pronounced silver sheen. Their eyes are large and luminous of a beautiful brilliant green.

Korats have extraordinary powers of hearing, sight and scent. It's believed that they were used by monks in Thailand as watch cats in the monasteries. They are very gentle and need a quiet, tranquil environment and the constant companionship of humans. In Thailand, they have been cherished for centuries and the gift of a pair of Korat cats to a bride was believed to ensure a happy marriage.

Korats, as kittens, go through an "ugly duckling" stage. Their ears are large in proportion to their bodies which gives them a comical appearance. They are silver-blue from birth with each blue hair being tipped with silver. The Korat matures into a beautiful adult cat in two to four years.

Regrettably, Sacha passed away April 07, 2007. He was a very special cat and is sadly missed by us all.
